but before we get to the really good stuff, real quick...here's the dinner
I really had alot of fun putting dinner decorations together and of course it was a hit! The boys and I cut and hung stars as the project/craft ...little did they know they were helping with the dining decor hehe. we also carved the "surprise pumpkin" (a surprise for dad, i guess) together. then we lit it and took it into the closet to tell ghost stories (i totally made the stories up as we went, incorporating "sir leif" and "sir samuel" every chance i got). we started out with goosebumps and ended up cackling ..as we always do in the hurst household (superfluous information, i know). anyway, we were all (save dad) costume clad for the "dinner party". these are a few more pics of the dinner decorations (cause i'm so darn pleased with the results)...

now, on to the good stuff...

ready to go ...aren't they precious!
the scary house with the "dummy"
head in hand..
roo the monkey

sam refused to wear his mask, which i found interesting. but even better was the fact that his treat bucket was a spiderman head ..lol, is it just me or is that funny? anyway, the boys had a super-duper good time trick-or-treating and all the houses were decorated so cute. i included a picture (above) of the house that even the bravest spidey and batman shied away from. the convo went a little something like this...

L: "dad, i'm scared...sam, you go ding the dinger..."
S: "uh NO ...dad, i'm scared. you do it"
...laughing and laughing...
then, a clearing of the throat and a hesitant dad...
"uh, ..lets see if there is someone in that dummy costume"...poke. nope, nobody in there -we're good!!!
(i mean heaven forbid the 29 year old be caught screaming like a girl on halloween night...)
lol. all in all it was the happiest hurst halloween we could have asked for. i really enjoyed every second of it. i think the boys' did too; their chocolaty grins really said it all. by the way, they got the loot!!! and if it were up to them all of it would have been eaten that very night; they truly make me laugh myself into a senseless oblivion.
can't wait 'till next year!

Wow, I'm so impressed! Your dinner decor is awesome! We were running like crazy to shove food in our faces and run out the door; nothing like your spooky fun sit-down dinner. What a cute mom you are.
Okay, first let me just say that I VOTE YOU FOR MOM OF THE YEAR! Yes, you definitely win.
Second, the boys-CUTE, CUTE, CUTE!
Third-the spiderman head--TOTALLY FUNNY! I'm still laughing. Thanks for sharing your Halloween!
Luke was totally into the background music. Your cute kids are going to have fantastic memories. Jared poking the dummy...too funny.
coty i love all the pics...the kids look adorable. we saw quite a few spidy's and bat-boys, must have been the cool costumes this year. I must say the dinner decorations are pretty darn sweet. it's been so fun to see everyone's traditions on there blogs...next year i have lots of great ideas to try...even more fun...hard to imagine. ahhh, i do wish we lived closer, there are just certain enthusiasums that we are "one heart" on.
smooches, shauna
Love the decs - you really do have the cutest ideas. Your look great by the way!
Mom of the year. That's you. I know you love it though. Wish I could have trick-or-treated with Leif and Sammy. My kids are at the stage where they want to go on their own. Not as much fun for the mom anymore. Anyway, glad you had fun.....
Coty-you are the fabulous-est mom ever! Can I just BE you?! It seems like the best Halloween ever. Kit and I think we'll steal your tradition of 13 days of Halloween. Totally fun!
Darling kiddies, by the way.
