okay, i'm officially in over my head...roo can't STAND his rice cereal. he now SCREAMS at the top of his lungs when i sit him in his highchair (i tried the lap too, no luck) and spits it all over the place, i mean everywhere!!!
i've two other boys...neither of them had any difficulty with the transition from milk to baby food??? i'm afraid when it's really time, i'm gonna have serious problems...
Mother's, what do i do?

oh no! he looks like he is ever so pleasantly not eating it though. such a funny/cute picture. my kaleb HATED rice cereal. i could never get him to eat it. ever. so we moved on to sweet potatoes and then squash, which he LOVED. you could ask your pediatrician about it, but that was what worked for us. I think I had to give him a vitamin with iron though because they get that from the rice cereal. good luck. it's hard to be the mom sometimes.
thanks amber. that's what i'm afraid of though. with leif and sam i didn't start them on sweet tastes for fear that is all they would want to eat; it worked out great, leif still loves veggies over fruits. unfortunately, i don't think rhoane is going to give-in...
i was 1 for 3 on the mush. only bud e was into it. they survived!
consequently, he is the one with allergies, to everything. i have to wonder......
awe! He is so cute! I've just heard to keep trying and hopefully they'll acquire a taste for it. Also, what the other girls said and mixing veggies in with it. I also mix it with pumped breast milk and that seems to help...oh, and Max seems to prefer the baby oatmeal over the rice. good luck!
I would consider maybe he has a reason (allergy/sensitivity) he objects so strongly. It may just be a taste thing, but I wouldn't push it for a while personally. L was picky about texture, so I had to mix it really thick for her, even at the beginning. I always used breast milk instead of water also. You can always go with veggies instead, or even fruits. He may just not be ready. Some kids don't start solids until 8 or 10 months, or even later. Good luck!
The cute little chunker doesn't like food, what? Ah, the joys of starting solid foods. Luke had no interest in rice cereal or oatmeal. I finally started introducing the vegtables those seemed to go a little smoother. When he got alittle older, I tried mixing the rice cereal with a little juice. I don't know if the juice thing is on list of things not to do but it seemed to work for Luke. I just didn't give him very much juice to drink. He still actually likes vegtables over fruit. Somehow time marches on and they survive...he will be chowing down before you know it.
i wouldn't worry about it a bit. Brody did the same thing for a little over a week. would cry, spit, get mad, choke etc etc (the whole thing was very dramatic to watch). I now know that it wasn't that he didn't like the rice though, it was just that he didn't like the whole food thing (he wanted the milk and nuttin' else). it was like that with everything i tried, even yummy baby foods. BUT.....i just trudged on, trying 3 times day and evenutally he got it, or acquired a taste (whatever) now he LOVES food and eats like a champ. also, i don't hold any stock in the whole veggies, before fruit. i mean, i did veggies first, but who cares...whatever you gotta do...do it. that SOOOO itsn't going to make a difference in the long run. trust me, our boys were like BORN to eat...he'll get the hang of it and be eatin' in no time. don't stress babe. ttyl
PS. i'm a zero on the work out:( ...i'm leaving town for a few days but will be back on sunday and email then. smooches.
I am sorry about the cereal thing, but he will be fine. The only reason they give them cereal is to help them learn texture and jaw motion. He should be getting enough nutrients from milk. The other question I have is he breast or bottle? If bottle you don't need to worry about the iron. If breast just ask the doc or an iron vitamin to prevent rickets (?) I had to do this with Norah because she would do cereal and I was concerned because she was SOOOO small. Good luck you should email me sometime.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your new house and all that you are doing with it! How exciting!! Rhoane is such a little cutie!!
Ahhh, the joys of baby food... The other girls have some good suggestions, but i've found that none of my kids like rice cereal either. I just moved right onto oatmeal. I really didn't have any problems with it. I generally would mix it with eaither expressed breast milk or a bit of juice. I have also mixed it with some fruit or veggies and that gives it a better taste. You know that things'll work their way out...you're a seasoned vetran. ;)
I put the cereal in his bottle with formula and that seemed to help him eat the cereal! You just have to have a big enough nipple for it to come out! Best of luck!
I did the same as steph and added a little juice or veggies to it. Also, as my girls got older I added some yogurt to it (which they LOVED), but it has been so long, I can't remember the age when you can add things like yogurt to their diet. But I have to agree---he's a cutie!
breastmilk myth:
There is more iron in formula because our bodies can't absorb it as well in formula but absorb all of it in breastmilk. You don't need to supplement iron if he's getting breastmilk.

I'm with Trish - it could be an allergy. Go slow with it.
