we spent the early afternoon hours hard-fixed on a hole ruthie dug in the backyard. rather than get mad about the mess (eeekkk, i usually can't stand the thought of the dirt being all over everyone and everything), i just joined in. i grabbed up fistfuls of dirt and thoroughly enjoyed crumbling up the clods ...that is until leif curtly informed me that i was "messing up his cliffs"...oops! who knew?
it was so cute. you can tell by the pics, how intense this play really was. the only thing that brought leif up for air was the urge to love on his baby brother rhoane -i completely understand.
i also love how they use "pretend talk" ..you know, announce out loud what pretend action move their toy is doing...it's so funny (sam's the expert at this, i mean he is very thorough and detailed with his explanations).

I lvoe cell phoens they are the best baby toy ever!
what a perfectly lovely afternoon. I long for the mere sight of dirt right now. We were just hounded with snow yesterday (18 inches!). Your boys are so sweet. i know exactly what you mean about wanting to be 4 again. me too. :)
That 2nd pic is so sweet! Over the summer L spent hours playing dinosaurs in a pile of dirt-laundry day was "fun" but it was great cheap entertainment. Way to go for being the cool mom that didn't pass up a great opportunity.
What a great afternoon. Can I just say, I love those golden curls. Wow!
Who knew Ruthie could provided such a perfect dirt pit. Boys and dirt just seem to fit together.
Luke says "big dig"
we used to have an endless dirt pile on the east coast, oh how i miss the dirt digging. the new place is next to 10 acres of farmland, i hope they get to experience this! how fun, and we too are burried in about 6 feet of snow right now, we got pelted 2 days ago. we've not had a chance to leave the house in nothing less that 4 layers.........
Don't you just LOVE the studiousness of little boys and their dirt? It's the best.
Looks like you guys had fun. And Samuel loves to "talk" on Mom's cell phone too. :)
I love how intense little ones can play. They are so serious about what they do and how they do it. Love it and dirt...we get a lot of that in this house!
You go girl what a good mom you are joining in the fun and making lemonade out of lemons.
