while watching TV ..a mother and daughter baking together pops up on the screen. my son, leif, turns to me and says:
"WELL mom... you see that"
"yeah babe, they are cooking together aren't they?"
"well, YOU never. never. let me cook with you"
"what?"

(this is me recalling the apple dumplings we made together in the not-so-distant past)
"yeah well, yoouuu let sam cook the bacon and not me"
(this is my son, obviously not over his bitterness about a bacon cooking fiasco we had a few nights ago. and no, sam didn't help cook it. he yanked the spatula and attempted to flip the bacon. he got "zizzed"(his words) by a speck of grease and lost interest).

but, just try explaining that to a four year old after his brother's been bragging about the bacon he didn't cook...sheesh.
so ...
that was it. i'd been called
and today, i answered the call...

you'll never guess who wasn't all that interested in baking...LEIF!!!
never the less,
what little time i did get to spend baking with the boys (all covered in flour and egg yolk) was still precious.
kids...
well really, how can i fill the rest of that in? it changes everyday.
i'm just blessed to have them in my life
(baking enthusiasm or not)

kids are so funny! they really do make life so much more entertaining!
It is never a dull moment with kids that is FOR sure! I'm glad that you answered the call too. I need to do that myself. Thanks for the reminder!
hey there, got your message on my blog. the kids and i went to NY for a few days a i just got back; i'll email you with all the details later. anwyay, so about the blogging...i go through stages...plus, nothing's been happening round this place! you know that's a lie...i wish. loved the new years post.
smooches.
Love to cook and can't wait to do it with the little one (even if it slows down the process). Sounds like fun ;)
This is funny. I want cookies you should make me some :)
You are such a good mama to make cookies and bacon and stuff with your kiddos! I hope that when Kade is older I have that much patience!
I LOVE this post - brings back so many memories. Just wait in a few years they will be denying that you EVER let them cook but you have PROOF, lol!! Actually, even my teens love to cook. Every Monday night it is their turn to cook either dinner or dessert (they alternate.) We have had some interesting meals but each one special in its on right. Thanks for sharing this sweet moment=)
Isn't it funny how they latch onto the most random things. I gotta admit-I adore cooking w/the kiddos (Ezra mostly, obviously). Even if they do make it a much l.o.n.g.e.r. process, at least they give you a good excuse to lick the beaters w/them.
Way cute post. You are such a good momma to get up and go cook with the boys. I love how Leif remembered Sam cookin' the bacon. You probably would've never guessed he thought about it, yet alone bring it up. So funny.
I l.o.v.e.d your '09 post. Way to cute. You put such a fun and interesting flair to a great new year's post. Loved it.
I am just a tad bit behind on reading blogs, so I will comment on a lot:) Your new chocolate lab is making me want another dog...I must resist the urge for now! Those cinnamon rolls looked so yummy...how do you stay so thin with all the gourmet cooking you do? It just can't be possible! I love the lamps you found...isn't it great when you find what you really LOVE! Cooking with kids is always a special moment and I love the bacon story! So that glad that 2009 has been so good to your family! I hope it continues!
